Lookout together!

I used to be one of those that thought of Hyena's as smelly, disgusting, cowardly, pathetic and mean scavengers that loved killing lion cubs and deserved to be bullied by adult lions. But spending time with them in the wild brings you to appreciate them more. They do only what they have to in order to survive. They are an integral part of the eco-system in cleaning up after other carnivores by devouring their left overs. Moreover, they actually hunt most of their meals and are remarkably more successful than the big cats. Far from being cowardly and pathetic, they are bold, brazen and filled with determination which deserves respect. Although they have a strict hierarchy, they thrive off close family bonds just like the lion. They have a way of worming their way into your heart.
